2017 LFC Division 2 All-Stars

Here are the Lackawanna Football League Division 2 All-Stars. The All-Stars are selected by a combination of the league coaches and the NPF staff.

 

LFC DIVISION 1 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Matt Gilmartin, Scranton Prep

The senior tailback was a workhorse through most of Scranton Prep’s second straight trip to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state Class 3A quarterfinals. … Set a school record with 46 carries while running for 226 yards in the 35-34 win over fellow state quarterfinalist Valley View (4A) in a game that ultimately decided the LFC Division 2 title. … Carried 297 times for 1,740 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Cavaliers, who won their first 13 games, including the District 2 Class 3A championship. … Also gained more than 1,000 yards combined rushing and receiving last season when he led the ground game in the team’s playoff run after taking over for an injured teammate late in the season.

 

LFC DIVISION 1 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Sam Pittsman, Valley View

The senior linebacker repeats as a first-team division all-star. … Moved up to first team on offense after being a second-team division star last year. … Led the District 2 Class 4A champion Cougars in tackles with 67 solo and 33 assists, including 37 solo and 20 assists during the team’s 7-game winning streak. … Made tackles for losses in each of the last eight games of the season. … Finished as team leader with 5 sacks and ranked second with 13 tackles for losses. … Intercepted a pass, recovered a fumble and broke up three passes. … Carried 56 times for 308 yards and 3 touchdowns along with serving as lead blocker for multiple tailbacks in offense’s running game.

 

 

LFC DIVISION 1  LINEMAN OF THE YEAR

Charles Farrell, Scranton Prep

The senior was a first-team division all-star in both the offensive and defensive lines while helping the Cavaliers repeat as unbeaten champions of the division. … Led the team’s two-way dominance of the line in most games on the way to 13 wins, a District 2 Class 3A championships and a berth in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state quarterfinals. … Was a key blocker from a ground game that averaged more than 250 yards per game. … Contributed to a defensive effort that shut out six opponents, including the first three, and held three other teams to seven points. … Earned second-team division all-star honors on offense as a junior.

 

 

LFC DIVISION 1 COACH OF THE YEAR

Randy Wolff, Western Wayne

In his second season as a head coach, he helped lead Western Wayne to its first-ever District 2 home playoff game. … Guided team to seven regular-season wins, improving his record to 13-9 in 2 seasons. … Led team to wins in its first five games. … Got the defense off to a fast start, with consecutive shutouts to begin the season and just seven points allowed while posting three shutouts in the first four games. … Won an Eastern Conference championship in first season as coach.
